Key issues discussed and decisions made at the 19th to 22th meeting of the Rana Plaza Coordination Committee

Key issues discussed and decisions made at the 19th to 22th meeting include:

  • Endorsement of Sixth Instalment of 39 recommended awards concerning deceased and injured workers, which amount in total to BDT 36,624,712. In view of now available funds, disbursement authorized in full as well as disbursement of the remaining 30% of Instalments 1-5. Trustee of the Rana Plaza Donor Trust Fund instructed to transfer the necessary funds in the amount of BDT 316,606,726.00 (representing the awarded amounts minus the amounts already received by the beneficiaries from the RPCA and Prime Minister’s Relief Fund) to the RPCA account. A further 9 claims were rejected as ineligible.

  • Approval of Sixth and Seventh Revised operating budgets and of extension of the RPCA operations up until 31 December 2015. All RPCA staff will be transferred to the Tazreen Claims Administration by 1 October 2015, except one staff who will be retained at RPCA to work together with the Executive Commissioner on completing the RPCA operations.

  • Approval of an arrangement for the provision of future medical care to seriously injured claimants (10-100% disability rate) financed by and implemented under supervision of BRAC.

  • Decision to engage accountancy firm A. Quasem & Co, a member firm of Ernst & Young Global Ltd., to undertake a compliance audit of the RPCA.

  • Endorsement of 68 corrections of awards following requests by claimants; 8 additional awards concerning deceased and injured workers; and 3120 supplementary payments to be made in view of claimants’ psychological suffering and the peculiar circumstances of the Rana Plaza accident as well as the fact that the US$ 30 million target required in the Trust Fund had been met. Trustee of the Rana Plaza Donor Trust Fund instructed to transfer the necessary funds in the amount of BDT 264,259,648.00 to the RPCA account.
